taking her thyroid pill

I don't know if anyone else has had the joyful experience of administering more than one dose per day of a pill to their cat. My cat recently was diagnosed with a thyroid problem and she is supposed to take 1/2 a pill twice a day. The problem is that she is very difficult about it. I got one of those pill shooter things, and it doesn't work as she just gags the pill back up and spits it out. But that;s when I'm even lucky enough to get close enough to even try. She becomes very hostile about it and yes, she will scratch and bite. I try to hide it in food, a piece of chicken or steak. Sometimes this works. Other times it is too easily identified and gets spit out while she eats the rest. This is incredibly frustrating. She is not getting the meds she needs. Does anyone know what can be done? Sometimes I think it's just a scam for the vets and med companies to make some money off of us, but if she really is sick, I want her to get the meds! Any advice??

Have you tried mashing the dose up in some gravy, or something else that she likes and smearing it on her face? She will preen and eventually get the dose. But, this might involve a lot of work...and, if she misses some, she might not get an 'exact' dose. Oh, never mind...sorry...;-)

That is an interesting idea, some is better than none. We found the perfect thing...Greenies makes these treats called pill pockets, you just put the pill in the treat and they eat it right up! it is working really well, i highly recommend it to anyone else who might have the same problem
