Tyler, recently, has been waking me up by curling up close to my head and "kneading" my hair. My scalp does not like this! I'm wondering if I should invest in some sort of "kneading post" to allow him to let his ya-yas out.

Re: Meezers Kneading Human Hair
Sun, December 18, 2005 - 2:19 PMKneading is a behaviour all cats are 'wired' for. They knead their mothers when nursing to express the milk. After they're weaned, they do it as sort of a comfort thing, or (IMO) to express satisfaction or affection.
I can understand your scalp may be sensitive, so you're not getting as much out of the experience as Tyler does! Try putting him in your lap and loving on him when he starts kneading your scalp. That way, he won't think you're angry or that he's doing a "bad thing." -

Re: Meezers Kneading Human Hair
Sun, December 18, 2005 - 5:41 PMHahaha...It's become a "game." He kneads my scalp when I'm lying down, I sit up, wrap my hands around his belly, pick him up, and cuddle him. He purrs. I'm guessing that for him, it's "mission accomplished." It finally dawned on me: His environment has changed. There's another cat in the house - the owner of this cat "lost interest" in him. It's a shame because this cat is a really people friendly Tabby. But, the other cat in the house is, more than likely, making Tyler feel insecure.

Re: Meezers Kneading Human Hair
Thu, June 8, 2006 - 12:22 PMThis is funny! I adopted a litttle black Meezer-cross kitten about three weeks ago. She really shows the Siamese--if not for the coat and eye color, you'd never know the difference. And this little one likes to sleep on my head or neck, and get her paws all wrapped up in my hair! I've had other kittens play with my hair, and I know all cats knead--it's called "milk-treading"--and I know the head is where the most body heat escapes, so it must be nice and warm up there for Dara. One of my old tuxedo cats used to like to sleep on the pillow, behind my head. But none of my other cats--not a Meezer among them!--has shown a consistent need to sleep ON my HEAD! If she's not on my head she's under my chin, with her little face right up against my throat! We are forging great bonds this way! So is this head thing a Meezer thing, do you think?
I have to say, I prefer the sleeping on my head to the walking across my face. . .Yes, she does that! And that, I'm inclined to think, MUST be a Meezer thing! They know they're royalty, and my face just happens to be a stand-in for Sir Walter Raleigh's cloak.
