I am new to the tribe, so this topic may have been discussed before. but does anyone know why Siamese bite? Cleo, my male, will let me pet him (and only me) then he will turn on me and aggresivley bite and kick me. He is 4 yrs. old. I have had him since he was a baby and he has never been hurt or traumatized by another animal or person. the older he gets the worse he gets. I could never get rid of him, so does anyone know how to break him of biting me?

Re: biting
Tue, January 17, 2006 - 2:52 PMDizzy only bites playfully unless he has an injury that I unknowlingly touch, then he'll let me know!
I had a kitten a long time ago that would bite a lot. I broke him of the habit by hissing at him! Don't know if it would work on an older cat.

Re: biting
Wed, January 18, 2006 - 6:30 PMMy 9 year old blue point Karma bites occasionally. No idea why. The first time was 3 years ago and she bit the inside of my arm, close to the elbow joint, while I was asleep. She left 3 deep punctures that got so infected I almost wound up in the hospital on IV antibiotics. I was on antibiotics for 3 weeks, plus I had TWO shots in the butt at the same time. That was real fun. Shortly after that she did it again but didnt brealk theskin as I was wearing long sleeves. I had to! I couldnt shut her out of my room - she'd sit at the door and raise hell all night. So i wore a thermal shirt to sleep. I've never trusted her 100% since, and now and then she will nip at me. I took her to the vet after that incident to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with her, but she was fine. I'll never know. -

Re: biting
Mon, August 21, 2006 - 3:00 PMi read something interesting once (i believe it was in "kittens for dummies" or something like that). it said that if you get two kittens at the same time they tend to be more gentle with people. presumably because they teach each other when their play gets too rough. i ended up getting two siamese kittens from the same litter and at almost 2 years old, they still are very gentle. they are not declawed but it feels like they are when they play. they are very soft pawed with me and don't bite very hard at all. unfortunately, they are not very gentle with the carpet and furniture! -

Re: biting
Mon, August 21, 2006 - 4:11 PMWell,
I have seen this behavior many many times.......
It doesn't bother me..........
I know, if you are holding the cat improperly, they will kick.........
I don't mind cats that bite..........I have been bitten soooo many times, by sooo many cats, and it doesn't phase me.........
you can train the cat, really you can........
cats are like any other animals (including humans)..........establish dominance.........establish YOU are the Alpha & it'll be alright -

Re: biting
Thu, September 28, 2006 - 7:00 AMMy Giselle is a biter and a kicker too. She is really out of control sometimes. I was reading in this book that cats get this thing where they reach a saturation point in their petting, like all of a sudden it just gets to be too muc. And then they start biting, etc. That could be part of the problem. I am so used to Giselle doing it that it just doesn't phase me anymore but I know how frustrating it can be. Sometimes you just have to let them come to you, and when they are ready to be held they will let you hold them for a longer time. Every cat is different but that's my 2 cents. I hop[e the problme has subsided a little by now
